Jack Nelson, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter, author and longtime Washington bureau chief for the Los Angeles Times, noted for hard-nosed coverage of the civil rights movement in the 1960s and the Watergate scandal in the 1970s. He was one of the first reporters to write about Orangeburg nationally to the disdain of Gov. McNair. He later co-wrote "The Orangeburg Massacre" with local journalist Jack Bass.
