Bob Levenson, a veteran teacher of everything Bob Dylan for years at several New York educational institutions, has passed the torch to Nina Goss for his fall Bob Dylan class at the 92nd Street Y in New York City.
Nina, a former classmate of mine, student of Bob’s and an amazing scholar herself, will lead the discussion class beginning October 6. The class runs 12 weeks and meets at the “Y” at 92nd Street and Lexington Ave. every Tuesday night from 8 to 10 p.m.
Anyone who is seriously interested in Bob Dylan's music will find new and exciting ways into his work from working musicians, scholars, writers, and poets. Guests lined up to so far include: Todd Gitlin, author of The Sixties—Years of Hope and Days of Rage; Sean Wilentz, major Dylan historian; David Massengill, musician and writer; Walter Raubicheck, chair of the English Department at Pace University and Dylan author, Rob Johnson, writer; and David and Norman Gains, art historians who will discuss Dylan’s Drawn Blanks series of paintings.
I’ll guarantee that Nina will run a provocative and exciting class. Call her at 347-244-3630 with any questions. Her excellent Dylan blog is called gardenerisgone. The class is called “Discussing Dylan: Dance Beneath the Diamond Sky with One Hand Waving Free.” Go to here to sign up.
